Communication Practices

Thoughts from Carole about the creative process

In my learning curve of blogging more regularly and efficiently, I really suffered last week and hit the lowest part of the curve. I had crafted a half-dozen of very-witty-hilarious-insightful ideas, that almost nobody around me understood. It’s the type of moments that tests my commitment to learn and have pleasure no matter what. I ultimately passed the test (meaning I didn’t give up), but it took a few dark days and required me to put my ego in my pocket (as we say in French) and  ask Susan, Jean-Pierre, Anouk, Jonathan, Tamara and Laura to double-check my work and beg for their ideas. They all came up with something simple and insightful to add to the sequence. Again, an humbling lesson of collaboration (as you know, I wrote a book on the subject because I’m the first one who needs to learn about collaboration), and a best practice for me who thinks that a good idea is only worthy, if it is coming from my own brain. So I hope you enjoyed the sequence and, as usually, it has nothing to do with my life.♥

What an inspiring process you have shared with us here. All artists should read your comments when they feel discouraged or stuck. It all comes down to “doing the work.” LIke a plumber or a pilot, essentially we are craftsmen who have to use our tools, our wit, our persistence and our helpers to accomplish our goals. You did it! I I love the complexity you added at the end by introducing the judgmental internal dialogue. Very smart and funny and spot on! Ah the adorable contradictions and intractability of human nature. Bravo!

    • Thanks Susan for your comment! I love your image of the craftsman. It’s a great reminder of the true nature of being an artist, that I constantly forgot: I am like plumber doing my job! I still have to get rid of my romantic view of being an artist, a residue from my studies at The Sorbonne, 25 years ago…

I can relate to this post on so many levels, but mostly when it comes to the writing process, self-expression and then sharing it with others all while staying true to the inner “I”. You may have put your ego in your pocket, but your ability to follow the whisper inside that says…listen, whether thats your intuition, your love of those around you or your obviouse respect for the creative process, itself exudes light. you inspire me.

As usual, it has nothing to do with my life either! ; )

    Bravo, Carole!

    Dear Carole,

The first part of your week– being stuck and feeling victimized– is the story of my life. However, I totally CANNOT relate to the second part of your week when you pulled yourself out of it. You mean it really isn’t the fault of our friends and spouses? Are you totally sure??????

    Seriously, in love and admiration,
    Charles

    • Dear Charles, Thankfully you’re in my life to remind me that I don’t have to be this amazing responsible centered generous human being all the time!
